WRI committees and subcommittees are the foundation of the Institute's efforts to promote structural welded wire reinforcement (WWR) through technical and engineering expertise, research, education, formal marketing programs, and close cooperation with appropriate codes, standards and regulatory organizations. Committee and subcommittee membership, with the exception of the executive committee, is open to all active WRI members. Listed below are the current standing committees and subcommittees, which typically include both engineering and marketing personnel:
Executive Committee:
Consists of WRI board members, including the board chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer and other members of the board who are elected to two-year terms. The Executive Committee is responsible for the overall administration and operation of WRI, as well as for recommending major programs and policies to the full WRI board.
Marketing Committee:
Responsible for promoting structural WWR and coordinating all of WRI's marketing activities and committees. This committee also reviews all funding requests for marketing-related activities by the individual committees and subcommittees for recommendation to the Executive Committee.
Building and Paving Subcommittee:
Promotes the importance and use of structural WWR, plain or epoxy coated, as concrete reinforcement for airport paving, highways, and slabs-on-ground. The subcommittee also stresses education and information intended to achieve the proper placement of structural WWR within slabs and pavements, as well as concrete-on-steel decks, and toppings on precast/prestressed structures.
Pipe and Box Culvert Subcommittee:
Promotes the use of structural WWR for concrete pipe, precast concrete box culverts, three-sided bridges, and other precast concrete products.
Structural Subcommittee:
Promotes the importance and use of structural WWR for building and bridge structures, including precast and prestressed components (column, beam and girder reinforcement), as well as tilt-up walls, tunnel wall liners, and other structural uses. The emphasis is on markets that, in the past, have used conventional reinforcement for most of these applications.
Codes & Standards Subcommittee:
Subcommittee members regularly report on codes and standards developments addressed at meetings of various industry-related organizations, including the ACI, P/PCI, CRSI, TRB, NCBC, ACPA, and ASTM. Members also actively participate in strategic planning sessions with other concrete-related associations.
